Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:36:32 GMT

It was a busy week at the state capitol where Republican and Democratic lawmakers agreed to a behind-the-scenes deal to schedule a special hearing in the coming week to take up delayed fentanyl bills. Democrats and Republicans say they're pleased these bills will get a hearing, but some say the process it took to get to this point is unacceptable. "We have good ideas, but you won't even vet them," California Assembly Minority Leader James Gallagher said. "You won't even hold a hearing on them. That's the problem."Authors of these bills say the legislation seeks to target fentanyl dealers and increase penalties for them. However, Assembly Public Safety Committee Chair Reggie Jones Sawyer argued some of the proposals, "were duplicative or provided no rational solutions at all." "The fentanyl epidemic is impacting every city and every community in our state...And so our response has to be about coming together with real solutions," San Francisco Assemblymember Matt Haney said. Colorado’s star made it look pretty easy with his two goals in Game 3 as the Avalanche reclaimed control of their opening playoff series. “This is definitely the hardest first round I’ve been in,” MacKinnon said. “I think sometimes the last few years we’ve been a top seed and we’ve not gotten easy teams by any means, but I think this Seattle team is a 100-point team and they’re really good, and we’re gonna have to continue to do our best to beat them.”MacKinnon was the best offensive player on the ice in Game 3 as the Avalanche beat Seattle 6-4 to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Game 4 is Monday night and a victory by Colorado would give it a chance to wrap up the series at home on Wednesday. But MacKinnon wasn’t the only Colorado star to show up in a big way in Game 3. Cale Makar had a goal and an assist, and Mikko Rantanen had three points, in...
